What is an ARCHIVE?

Archive is History - stored safely and made available. And history is always important because:

  1. It is generally not easily available in times of need.
  2. It always remains relevant to some research or the other.
  3. For pan-global cross-referencing.

What does e-archiving do?

Broadly:

  1. Fast and easy access, sitting at home.
  2. Manages researcher's time and saves it.
  3. No preservation issues for libraries/institutes. No day-to-day hassles and no preservation costs. Their work load reduced.
  4. No “missing pages” or “torn copies” or “moth-eaten” journals.

IndianJournals.com is already running this concept - a novel one in India. The “7 Principles” we work around are:

  1. Mode of access - always convenient.
  2. Terms of access - defined and stable.
  3. Access period - designed to keep research "recent".
  4. Information - continuously added/updated.
  5. Technical architecture of archive - organised.
  6. Relationships defined - between e-Publisher, Society and User.
  7. Costs maintained - continue customer oriented.
