Abstract

Two experiments in her (Zizyphus mauritiana Lamk.) were conducted in 1994–95 and 1995-96to determine the role of soil solarization and volume of glyphosate spray on the control of Cyperus rotundus at research farm, Department of Horticulture, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar. In experiment 1, use of black or white polyethylene sheets as amulch after one hand weeding at 70 days after sowing of her nursery in kharlf 1994–95 and 1995–96 was found to provide more than 98% control of C. rotundus and there was no regeneration of this weed. As a result of it height and number of primary branches/plant in her were statistically at par to the weed free plots. However, spray of glyphosate @ 0.2 or 0.4% did not provide effective control of this weed. This might be due to use of lower than required dose of glyphosate in this experiment. Results of experiment 2 (conducted in kharif (1995–96) revealed that under high volume (750 l/ha) spray of glyphosate at 0.75, 1.0 and 1.5% solutionin herorchard, the control of C. rotundus was to the extent of 77, 85 and 95%, respectively. Addition of surfactant further increased its phytotoxicity on this weed. Almost similar level of control was obtained when glyphosate was sprayed with low volume of water (250 l/ha).
