Abstract

Field investigations were conducted at the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana during 1992–93 and 1993–94 on sandy loam soil to study the bioefficacy of new herbicides against Phalaris minor in wheat. Post-emergence application of tralkoxydim (0.25 and 0.35 kg), diclofopmethyl (0.75 and 1.0 kg) and chlortoluron (0.50 and 0.75 kg/ha) provided excellent control ofP. minor and being at par with isoproturon a recommended chemical. Also grain yields under all these treatments were at par with the recommended herbicide treatment (Isoproturon). On an average of two years, highest grain yield of 44.2 q/ha was recorded in 0.35 kg/ha tralkoxydim which was closely followed by 1.0 kg/ha diclofopmethyl when both were applied 30 days after sowing the crop. Among the herbicide treatments, chlortoluron at 0.25 kg/ha gave poor control of Phalaris and consequently produced minimum grain yields.
