Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the three major rice growing seasons of Tamil Nadu to study the effect of weed control treatments and irrigation regimes in dry seeded and wet seeded lowland rice (Oryza sativa L.). Continuous submergence of irrgiation water did not cause any difference in their effect on weed control and grain yield of dry seeded and wet seeded rice over alternate submergence acrosss the seasons. The weeds in these rice cultures could be effectively controlled either by pre-emergence application of thiobencarb 1.0 kg/ha/butachlor 1.5 kg/ha followed by a hand weeding or two hand weedings alone. Early post-emergence application of herbicide mixtures did not prove effective on weed control either in dry or wet seeded rice.
