Abstract

Experiments were conducted to identify suitable sensitive plants for detecting chlorimuron ethyl residues in the soil using shoot and root inhibition bioassay. Among the various sensitive plants (cucumber, setaria, maize, sunflower, sorghum, greengram and fmger millet) tested shoot androot length of cucumber were the best in view of widerange of response and havinglow ED 50 value. With further studies on dose response of different parameters like shoot length, root length. fresh weight and dry weight of cucumber seedlings using logistic function analysis, the fresh weight was the best, followed by shoot length in detecting chlorimuron ethyl based on high goodness of fit with lowerror of estimation of ED 50.
